Chaga (Tschaga)

Valuable medicinal and vitality mushroom in the naturopathic therapy of gastric and intestinal diseases as well as cancer.

Both in Russian and in Finnish folk medicine, the Chaga has been used for centuries for healing purposes. In addition to its use as a tonic, it is widely used because of its powerful antioxidant, immunoregulatory, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Especially, it has made a name for itself as a natural remedy for the treatment of all gastrointestinal diseases as well as cancer. Since 1858, Chaga is listed on the Russian drug list, due to its effectiveness against cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. His scientific name is "Inonotus obliquus".

An important medicinal mushroom of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

According to the TCM, the Chaga is related to the spleen, stomach and liver. It is therefore used especially against diseases and complaints that are based on disorders of the functional circuits of these organs. The TCM sees the Chaga as a strong tonic, as a mushroom that builds the Qi and acts expectorant .It strengthens the stomach and the kidneys and calms the heart and mind.

Since the 1930s, the ingredients and effects of Chaga are scientifically researched in Russia. Today, in addition to the experiences gained from naturopathy, numerous international scientific studies prove its high therapeutic value.

Valuable ingredients

Therapeutically important ingredients include betulin (the precursor of betulinic acid), bioactive triterpenes, polysaccharides and flavonoids, ergosterols, sterols such as the valuable inotodiol and its melanin complex. The Chaga is also characterized by its above-average wealth of antioxidants, minerals and trace elements, including potassium, sodium, manganese and vanadium.

Range of application in Mycotherapy

In Mycotherapy, the focus is on the use of Chaga in complementary cancer therapy. Especially in early stages of cancer, its tumor-inhibiting effect has been proven. But even in advanced cancers, it is valuable because it can slow down tumor growth. Furthermore, it contributes to the containment of metastasis and can initiate apoptosis (the programmed cell death) of cancer cells. Very beneficial for affected persons is its alleviating effect on pain and the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
