According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Poria cocos is closely related to the kidneys, spleen and heart. This is linked to its high therapeutic value in case of complaints and diseases which are caused by disturbances in the functioning of these organs. The Chinese name of this medicinal mushroom is Fu Ling. It is also known as cocoa mushroom, Indian bread or tuckahoe.

Poria cocos contains a wide range of important vital substances, proteins and very interesting polysaccharides, including beta-pachyman and the diuretically acting poriatin. .
